advertising to porn

Hey, I'm Alex

A 24-year-old South African visual communication graduate, cam girl, and founder of the madpornscientists

I grew up on a smallholding about an hour outside of Cape Town with horses and chickens in my back garden. I come from a relatively conservative, predominantly Christian family and went to a decent mainstream public school in town.

In the week of my 18th birthday I received a letter of acceptance from my dream university in the big city to study conceptual advertising & design as well a car from my doting parents. I started looking for apartments that very day.

I remember driving my little car all the way to my new apartment and feeling badass as I tackled the highway for the first time. The new place had belonged to a 98-year-old lady that had died there a month prior. The carpet was patchy brown – once beige I assume, the windows were in need of replacing and her bed (now mine) was standing proudly in amongst her belongings. I’m sure she was sweet - my favourite item was the front cover of magazine that had been carefully placed in a black plastic frame and proudly mounted off centre on the left wall. I LOVED that apartment. The bed creaked and the carpet smelt but fuck me I was happy. It was all mine and I was living in the most beautiful area of Cape Town, stoked to start proving myself amongst the brightest young creatives SA had to offer.

I met Jay in the first week of university. He was studying mechatronics engineering at the time but enjoyed my assignments more and spent an unreasonably large amount of time assisting me. During one of these red wine, Concerta and cigarette fuelled evenings he brought up the idea of camming. We discussed it largely theoretically at first but eventually decided that it would be worth the crazy story.

From there it really all just took on a life of its own. So, to cut it short - we broadcast countless times and lived a few crazy years of fantastic sex, great food, complex social dynamics, interesting experiences, intense deadlines and lots of booze.

We became a little too well known when a video was uploaded illegally to Pornhhub and we amassed 3 million views in less than 2 weeks. Suddenly our secret life was out in the open and we would have to deal with the consequences. Having just graduated, the group decided to take a break, allowing our families time to process things a little as we pursued ‘normal’ jobs in ‘acceptable’ fields.

I wanted too many things to simply apply for a job as a junior art director. Chaturbate had allowed me a sense of freedom and the social pressure that came down on our heads, equipped me with a spirit of defiance. I was not going to be an art director. I was going to travel, learn a new language, read all the books I wanted to. On a mission to quite specifically ‘become a more interesting person’ and then go back to university, I hopped on a plane and left for England.

I spent the following 6 months working in a little village in the Lake District at a 4 star hotel in the whisky bar. I hadn’t settled on a language to learn yet but once I realised that half my colleagues were Romanian, I bought a textbook and set my alarm for the following day. The Idea was to have some sort of menial task job by day and study by night. I ended up drinking far too many pints up the road every night as I learned of their pool table and how to say ‘ce faci’ (how are you/howzit going in Romanian) much to the kitchen staffs delight. Not satisfied with my Romanian progress and fed up with the hotel work I moved to Romania to pursue fluency.

Within a very short period of time I had fallen in love with the country. The food, the people, the language, the isolation all captivated me. I went back to SA for a brief holiday to sell my car and say goodbye to the family and so when I arrived in Bucharest for the second time, it was to stay. I worked as an equestrian tour guide on a farm in Transylvania for some of the most beautiful months of my life, then as a bartender in Bucharest for some of the most debaucherous, before deciding that I needed to escape the lifestyle for a job more in line with my studies and financial expectations.

Advertising? Film? Design? Copywriting? Porn?

After a little research I realised just how ubiquitous these ‘video chat’ studios were in these parts and decided that this would be the next field I would tackle. I couldn’t think of anything that would suit me better than single handedly taking on the culture of camming in Romania. I wanted to make a difference. And this was how I would do it.

After months of Research I sent my CV to 5 Studios I’d found on google. The first was advertising free boob jobs to the highest earners. I walked out. The 2nd hadn’t even read my CV and was trying to recruit me as a model. The 3rd, however, was an ex lawyer who had a large enough studio and enough money that he was willing to take a chance on the little South African trying to prove that dildo’s weren’t the only way forward.

Fast forward 6 months and here we are. MPS was born out of my experiences as missalexthorn, but my new life is no longer as chaotic as it was with Bonnie and Jay. This time we are a little older, a little harder and a little more equipped to deal with whatever life throws our way.

Feel free to subscribe if you’d like to hear how we go about it.

See you around. X

Alex.
